I’m a Professor of Philosophy at the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota). During AY 2022-2023, I’ll be working on two main projects. First, together with the sociologist and scholar of contemporary slavery Kevin Bales, I’m writing a book on slavery and religion, past and present. Second, together with the philosopher Liz Jackson, I’ll be leading The Psychology of Faith Academic Cross-Training project. With the support of the John Templeton Foundation, this project will fund six $70,000 sub-grants for scholars of Christian theology or philosophy of religion, allowing them to engage in two years of academic cross-training in the psychological sciences and then to leverage that training in a theology of philosophy research project relating to religious belief or religious commitment.

In my book Taking Pascal’s Wager (2016), I give an extended argument for the reasonableness and desirability of Christian commitment.

From 2010-2016 Dean Zimmerman and I co-organized the St. Thomas Summer Seminars in Philosophy of Religion and Philosophical Theology.
